Last lesson we had to watch a scene from the King Kong movie
and evaluate on the different elements heard, example; instruments, crescendo
or decrescendo, tempo, pitch etc. (We also learned the meaning of crescendo and
decrescendo in class during this project, crescendo means; and decrescendo
means the opposite). Once we evaluated quietly in our heads, we had to inform
each-other the different sounds, noises, why they happened at that specific
moment and what caused the adrenalin to occur using only music. Once we
discussed our ideas and thoughts we then continued on to reenacting this
musical piece by using instruments we found, (usually in pairs for each
instrument), and we had to (everyone) decide when was the best point, or most
dramatic point to start playing, with the help of Mr. Marie we were able to
complete it, but not perfectly. We started out by playing the very high and
quiet instruments in sync and then continued on to adding more louder and
anticipating instruments towards the climax which ended in all of us slowly
lowering the sound of the loudest to the lowest instrument until we could no
longer hear. We could have improved by having some instruments go higher and
lower depending on the part of the scene, as well as we should have ended more
smoothly as there were a lot of people that didn’t know how to end the piece.
Although i believe we did really well because only having such little practice
we were able to grasp the concept and make it into our own creation. Once we
got the hand of it, (we tried this about 3 times) we were told that next lesson
we had to compose a new product of our own using the same elements we had been
taught in this lesson, we were excited and a bit worried of how the results
would end out.
